Subject: Postponing NYS Council 2019 Annual Conference
In view of the need for intensive budget advocacy at the State level this year, our Board of Directors has decided to cancel the December 11 – 12 Annual Conference in Albany. Instead we hope you will gather your troops and come to Albany for a NYS Council 2020 Advocacy Day at a date to be determined shortly.
As you know, each year the NYS Council holds an Annual Conference in the fall and then relies on representatives from our member agencies to come to Albany to join us for meetings with lawmakers at a time that is convenient for them. This has traditionally been a successful strategy that allows us to conduct a separate event (typically in NYC) where we can share ideas, engage in important conversations with key decision-makers, and learn from one another. However, this year we are facing an unprecedented budget crisis that requires us to re-think this strategy.
We believe it is necessary this year to hold our Annual Conference in conjunction with a NYS Council 2020 Advocacy Day in Albany, shortly after the Governor’s executive budget proposal is released in the new year.
We apologize for the inconvenience with canceling the Annual Conference. If you have already submitted your registration and payment, we will issue you a refund.
Now more than ever we need to be strategic and leverage your expertise and advocacy skills by asking that you come to Albany in early 2020 for an Advocacy Day. We will hold a Business Meeting at the same time.
